Trauma Support

Trauma Therapy

When you experience trauma; depending on the type and the duration, it can sometimes develop into Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Complex PTSD and these can have a significant impact on your life. You may start to notice that symptoms such as panic attacks, anxiety, low mood, flashbacks, intrusive thoughts and memories, avoidance of reminders of the incident, and nightmares may develop from the trauma straight away or weeks but at times, it can take up to years before the symptoms present themselves. If you find that the symptoms are interfering with your day-to-day activities, it may be time to speak with our professional team who will support you through this.

Phase 1

Assessment, Safety, Stabilization & Psychoeducation and Emotional Regulation

The first stage in therapy will allow the therapist to understand one’s personal history and what the best treatment plan may be for the person. The Safety and Stabilization stage will then allow one to gain a sense of mastery of one’s body and emotions and Psychoeducation will assist in normalizing one’s experiences.

Phase 2

The Trauma Process

The second stage is for one to process the trauma and make sense of it. The focus in this stage is to redefine the role the trauma has played in one’s life

Phase 3

Integration

The final phase is about re-integrating oneself and creating new meanings including new healthy beliefs of oneself and focusing on meaningful ways to connect with others.

What we deliver

  • We provide information with the aim of creating awareness about what Trauma is, how it presents in children, young people, and adults, and the impact it can have on day-to-day functioning in both the short and long term.
  • We arrange initial conversations and complete detailed objective assessments to help establish the presence of Trauma or PTSD and the extent of its impact.
  • We prepare Trauma Formulation and Treatment Plan (TFTP) to inform the appropriate treatment pathway and provide 1:1 trauma therapy over a period of time depending on the pathway with the aim of reducing or eliminating symptoms of Trauma and PTSD.
